The Cub Scout
Cookbook

Free campsite recipes designed for large groups of kids. Print individual pages or the entire guide for your three-ring binder.

Camping Food Safety & Preparation

Good food safety habits protect every scout at the campsite. Follow these guidelines to keep your den healthy and your meals worry-free.

Temperature Control

Keep cold foods below 40°F and hot foods above 140°F. Use coolers with plenty of ice for perishables.

Hand Washing

Wash hands with soap and water before handling food. Use hand sanitizer when water is unavailable.

Cross-Contamination

Use separate cutting boards for raw meat and vegetables. Never reuse plates that held raw meat.

Cooking Temperatures

Use a food thermometer. Ground beef: 160°F. Poultry: 165°F. Hot dogs: 165°F internal.

Water Safety

Use only potable water for cooking and cleaning. Bring water from home or use purified camp water.

Food Storage

Store food in sealed containers. Never leave food out more than 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F).

Allergy Awareness

Check for food allergies before the event. Keep ingredient lists posted for all recipes being prepared.

Wildlife Prevention

Store food in bear-proof containers or vehicles. Clean up immediately after meals.

How to Use This Cookbook

This cookbook is designed for practical use at campsite events and pack meetings.

Print & Distribute Recipes

Each recipe is on its own page — print and hand out individual recipes alongside the Food Safety Checklist. Let participants take the pages they want to make, and remember to print replacements!

Compile a Three-Ring Binder

Print the entire guide and organize it in a three-ring binder so participants can browse and select what they'd like to make.

Share the Safety Checklist

The Food Safety section is print-ready for committee education sessions, for parents at the start of the year, or whenever meals are assigned.

Scale Recipes for Your Group

Each meal notes approximately how many it feeds — simply multiply the ingredients accordingly for the size of your group.

About This Project

The Cub Scout Cookbook was created by Brian Cook as part of a Wood Badge Ticket for Gulf Stream Council Class 16-85-25. Wood Badge is the premier leadership training course for adult Scout leaders and I highly recommend it to every scouting leader.

This free digital cookbook provides campsite recipes specifically designed for large groups of kids, making meal planning for pack events simple and stress-free, the idea is based on feedback from BALOO asking to be given a copy of the recipes we had them cook..

All recipes are formatted on separate printable pages so event leaders can select, print, and distribute exactly what they need.
